Important ICD-10 change for chiropractors

The 2022 changes to the ICD-10 code list takes effect this coming October 1, 2021. This year, an important change is made for one of the most common diagnosis codes for chiropractors. M54.5 – Low back pain is removed form the ICD-10 code list and replaced with codes that are more specific:

  • New Code: M54.50 Low back pain, unspecified. This includes Loin pain and Lumbago NOS.
  • New Code: M54.51 Vertebrogenic low back pain, Low back vertebral endplate pain
  • New Code: M54.59 Other low back pain
  • M54.8 Other dorsalgia. Revise low back pain (M54.5) to low back pain (M54.5-)

Claims filed after October 1, 2021 should use the new codes in place of M54.5.

North Carolina HealthConnex

EZBIS Connection to North Carolina HealthConnex

EZBIS is pleased to announce that after extensive development and testing, the EZBIS connection to North Carolina HealthConnex is now available.

The EZBIS connection to North Carolina HealthConnex fulfills the requirements for North Carolina providers for submission of patient health data. As we have communicated before, submission of health information to HealthConnex is mandated by the state of North Carolina by October 1, 2021 in order to continue to receive claim reimbursement for all state-funded health plans including Medicaid, the NC State Health Plan (SHP) and others. Additionally, Health Network Solutions (HNS) requires all HNS members to participate and submit health information to HealthConnex regardless of whether providers receive funds from state funded health plans or not.

For more information about the North Carolina Health Information Exchange Authority (NC HIEA) and HealthConnex, visit their website at https://hiea.nc.gov/providers/

While October 1, 2021 seems far in the future, it is important to initiate connectivity to HealthConnex as soon as possible. Every healthcare provider in the state of North Carolina has the same deadline and there will a scramble to connect all providers in advance of the deadline. EZBIS users will also need to become familiar with the process for entering health information in the EZBIS Electronic Health Records system. So, please do not delay. See more information about how to connect your EZBIS software to HealthConnex here. Read more about EZBIS Electronic Health Records here.

EZBIS Partners with ABILITY Network

Chiropractic providers benefit from comprehensive, integrated all-payer Revenue Cycle Management application

MINNEAPOLIS, March 27, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — ABILITY® Network, a leading healthcare information technology company, and EZBIS, Inc., the nation’s foremost provider of comprehensive chiropractic software, today announced a partnership to help providers simplify the complexities of managing their revenue cycle.

EZBIS, Inc will integrate ABILITY’s EASE® All-Payer Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) application (EASE All-Payer) into its EZBIS Office platform, the company’s complete practice management solution. EZBIS Office combines billing, collections, scheduling, electronic health record and a patient self-check-in module in one platform. Adding EASE All-Payer to this platform will give chiropractic providers using EZBIS Office seamless access to ABILITY’s comprehensive cloud-based, SaaS application to manage their revenue cycle.

EASE All-Payer helps providers by automating time-consuming, manual tasks, such as eligibility verification, and saves staff time and prevents delivering unreimbursed services. EASE All-Payer also helps ensure adherence to payer rules and edits. By making sure that claims submitted to payers are clean the first time, providers save money and staff time by reducing manual follow-up after the claim has been sent.

“Working with chiropractic clinics for nearly 40 years means that we understand the unique challenges chiropractic providers face related to managing their revenue cycle,” said Tonio Cutrera, marketing director, EZBIS. “To improve revenue cycle performance, chiropractic practices need an application that can streamline critical RCM processes. We are thrilled to partner with ABILITY, to help our chiropractic clients improve their business performance.”

“Managing claims and reimbursement can be complex, cumbersome and time consuming,” said Bud Meadows, executive vice president and chief revenue officer of ABILITY. “In partnering with EZBIS we create an incredibly powerful combination of specialized software to help chiropractic providers simplify revenue cycle complexity.”
